The group was created in 1990, with the singers Mariannick St-Céran, Michèle Fernandez, Cyrille Martial and Jean-Marie Guyard. Over the years, some have left the group for other horizons and some have stayed. Today the nucleus is made up of Mariannick St-Céran, Cyrille Martial, Alain Rageot, with guest appearances by Jean-Marie Guyard as well as the brilliant young pianist full of “soul feeling”, Cyril Séguy. The singers have an African origin and different musical backgrounds. They have conscientiously put their talents together to maintain the tradition of a music born from the oppression on a people who could only express himself in his place of worship, a place given over to meditation and turned into a place for JUBILATION! The JGS regularly play at weddings and christenings where they become witnesses, present yet discreet, of spiritual alliances. They have also given concerts and sung at festivals (Gospel Festival in Cruis, the Gréoux Festival, Culture Centres…) The group has recently been enriched by a bassist and a drummer to give a complete festive and jubilatory dimension to a music which defines itself mainly by the words JOY and SOUL!
